I am often asked- Why Dexters?   In recent years there has been a worldwide surge of interest in Dexter cattle. These gentle, hardy and easy to handle animals are one of the world's smallest bovines. Considering their small size (cows generally stand between 36 and 42 inches at the hip and weigh somewhat less than 750 pounds)  I found that I would be able to handle them a bit more easily than some of the other, larger,  breeds. They require about 1/3 less pasture and feed than other breeds. They thrive in hot as well as cold climates and do well outdoors year round, needing only a windbreak, shelter and fresh water. Fertility is high and calves are dropped in the field without difficulty. They are dual purpose, being raised for both milk and meat.

Veliraf's Ina May
D.O.B- May 5, 2002
Height - Need to measure
Colour - Black with no white

Sire: Corn Starch
(Atkin Acres Kimbull X Braco Rory's Tara)
Dam: Blossom Valley Emma
(Rosewood Rudolph X Blossom Valley Cynthia)

Here is a picture of Ina taken in the summer of 2007. I find it quite difficult to get a really nice picture of these girls. She has been bred to our oldest herd bull Locust Lane RL All Bran , for a winter/spring 2010 calf. She is definately the favourite around here- and loves to follow us around for attention. I love her conformation, she's long and level- and has a lovely disposition, even when I'm handling her calves.

Veliraf's Jasper June
D.O.B- May 25 2002
Height - Need to measure
Colour - Black with white on udder

Sire: Corn Starch
(Atkin Acres Kimbull X Braco Rory's Tara)
Dam: Blossom Valley Fatima
(Blossom Valley Rambo X Appleglen Vivacious Venus)

Jasper is also one of our first born heifers here. I am very happy with what our first bull produced. His daughters have all been very beefy, with great body capacity. She has been bred to our oldest herd bull Locust Lane RL All Bran , for a winter/spring 2010 calf. Jasper, although a bottle baby, is still somewhat reserved- and always will defer to Ina for her instructions! She has yet to have a heifer calf for us- but when she does- she will likely be available for purchase.

(Cranworth Samson X Aldebaran Pennyroyal)

I'm hoping to take a nice picture of ercury this summer, when she's lost all of her winter fuzz. I find it quite difficult to get a really nice picture of these girls. She has been bred to our oldest herd bull Locust Lane RL All Bran , for a winter/spring 2010 calf. Her horned daughter, Veliraf's Jumping Jupiter, is currently available for purchase, and is most likely bred to our bull, All Bran. Carries Dun.

Here is a horrible picture of Jupe taken in the winter of 2008. I'll try to take a current picture of her. She has been bred to our oldest herd bull Blossom Valley RL All Bran , for a winter/spring 2009 calf. Jupiter is available now as a bred cow. $1400.00. Carries Dun.

Locust Lane Rosie Red
D.O.B- April 3, 2005
Height - Need to measure
Colour - Red with no white

Sire: Timberstan Rouge's Lobo
(Don-Al Rouge X Don-Al Nina)
Dam: Timberstan Cliona-of-Erin
(Braco Hizzonor x Erin Frances)

Here is a picture of Rosie taken shortly after she arrived. It is much easier to take a picture of dun or red animals. She has been bred to our oldest herd bull Locust Lane RL All Bran , for a winter/spring 20010 calf. She is really a gorgeous cow, I only wish she didn't have horns!!!! I'm hoping that 2010 will see her have a heifer calf- we've have three bulls in a row, so I'm hoping it's time for a heifer!
