I am often asked- Why Dexters?   In recent years there has been a worldwide surge of interest in Dexter cattle. These gentle, hardy and easy to handle animals are one of the world's smallest bovines. Considering their small size (cows generally stand between 36 and 42 inches at the hip and weigh somewhat less than 750 pounds)  I found that I would be able to handle them a bit more easily than some of the other, larger,  breeds. They require about 1/3 less pasture and feed than other breeds. They thrive in hot as well as cold climates and do well outdoors year round, needing only a windbreak, shelter and fresh water. Fertility is high and calves are dropped in the field without difficulty. They are dual purpose, being raised for both milk and meat.

Here at the farm we have a fairly small herd of Dexters. Our calving season is done for 2008, and once again we have had a bull year. We have one cow left to possibly calve before the new year, and we're really hoping for a heifer calf. We'll try to get pictures up of the new calves as soon as we can. Please check back in the new year to see what's happening here! We're hoping to have some nice calves available for purchase in the spring.
We are offering Veliraf's Jumping Jupiter for sale. She has been exposed to our dun bull. She is a black(no white) horned cow. DOB- August 10, 2005.
We also have a 2008 heifer calf available out of Veliraf's Ina May and Locust Lane All Bran. Minimal white. Black carrying dun. Disbudded.
We are also offering a black yearling bull- he is out of Veliraf's Ina May, and Veliraf's Corn Pop- line bred on Corn Starch. He is really a nice little guy, and is beefing up nicely. When he loses his shaggy winter coat- we'll post a nice picture of him. Disbudded. Black.

  Veliraf Farms Sales Policy

In order to decrease any misunderstandings or hard feelings, please carefully read the following terms & conditions of sale:

A $150 deposit, made payable to Nicole Heath, will reserve a heifer/bull of your choice. Reservations are made upon a first come first served basis. Only those reservations accompanied by a deposit can be honored. Be sure to let me know what your second choice will be, preferably in order of birth, in case your first choice calves are not available. Deposits will be forfeited if buyer backs out of the sale.

We reserve the right to retain any calf to remain in our herd, even if a deposit has been made on them. In that case, deposits will be refunded or another calf may be chosen. That selection is often not made until after birth. Your deposit will be returned if both your choices are unavailable or are unsuitable, in our estimation, for sale. If you choose to, the deposit may be placed on another choice if available. Balance of payment is due upon notification that your calf is available and must be paid for in full prior to pick up or shipping. If animal has not been picked up/shipped out within 60 days of the seller informing the buyer that the animal is ready to be shipped, after 30 days a boarding charge of 1.00/day will be applied. If after 60 days the animal had stil not been picked up/shipped then the sale will be considered cancelled, and there will be no refund of any monies paid.

All shipping costs (transportation, health certificates, crates, etc.) are the responsibility of the buyer. You must supply your own shipping container, you can send the money and I will buy a crate for you and then I will ship the goat of your choice in it. We ship out of Pearson International Airport in Mississauga, and charge a nominal $35 fee for transportation to the airport. We will test any animal for TB,CAE, CL, Johnnes or Brucellosis at buyers request & expense. We can also deliver animals to any of the shows that we are planning to attend for a fee of $100 or less depending on location. The cost of health papers will be the responsibility of buyer.

We try to be truthful in our descriptions. Our cattle are healthy and free of visual defects when we sell them. Since we cannot control their environment once they leave our barn, we cannot offer further guarantees. If a problem develops, we will work with you to make it right. Our reputation is very valuable to us and we want you to be pleased with your purchase.   We may also offer discounts for multiple purchases.

We guarantee our animals to be free of any disqualifying faults in the show ring although we don't guarantee height. We guarantee fertility in all of our animals.(If this would ever arise, please contact us and we will gladly give you the specific guidelines we need in order for you to receive your replacement.)

We guarantee that our animals will be healthy at time of pick-up or delivery. We will not be responsible for stress of any kind after the animal leaves our farm.

Stress is very common in both calves and adults of all ages when moved from one place to another. Illness and sometimes death can occur if the animal is not properly handled or treated. Veliraf Farm WILL NOT be held responsible in any way. These things very seldom happen, but unfortunately they can.
