Welcome to our all natural Tamworth pork page.
Here is where you'll find a little more information about how we raise our pork to eat. We start them off right-
our sows are fed a high quality hog grower for the latter part of their pregnancy- the are then made comfortable in their farrowing stalls(or pens outside- depending on the season)
When the sows farrow- the piglets are checked over, sexes are noted, and then mom is left to do her thing. Piglets are castrated at about 5 days of age, and are started on a high quality
pig starter. They are weaned at between seven and eight weeks. We do NOT wean at three weeks- I do not believe the piglets have enough time to grow properly-
and there is no better food for them than their mothers milk. Then piglets are weaned a few at a time- the largest are taken out first, followed by the smaller guys.
They are then raised in their litter groups until they either are sold as breeding stock or are sent to slaughter.
We currently have some garlic sausage for sale. It is from three month old piglets, and is delicious!! It is naturally very lean, and has a very nice flavour. Our price is 3.00/pound. The sausage is packaged in approximately two pound packages. There are 8 links to a package. | |
| We strive to keep our animals as happy and healthy as possible. We do not not use farrowing crates, nor do we clip piglets teeth or tails. Our adult pigs are fed a sow ration, with hay in the winter. When summer rolls around they will be moved out to the yard- where they will be able to roll in the mud, graze on grass, and have access to plenty of healthy sunlight and fresh air. |
